PICKLEBALL CLASSES FOR KIDS AND YOUTH
Pickleball is fast, social and relatively easy to learn which makes it a great sport for kids. It is also a great family sport once kids acquire the basic skills and knowledge that allow them to play with their parents. Our coach-led classes mix skill-building with lots of game play, so kids improve quickly and have fun doing it. No experience is needed. Within each age group, players are grouped by skill level, so beginners can learn at a comfortable pace and more experienced players get the challenge they need.
Ages 4-7
We do not offer a pickleball class for this age group as we already incorporate paddle drills in our red ball tennis class and the basic skills that it focusses on are the same that would be addressed in a pickleball class (e.g., hand eye coordination, basic footwork) . For this reason we suggest that parents with children at this age consider the red ball classes listed under our tennis tab. That said, if your child is 7 years of age and already playing pickleball regularly they might be eligible for our pickleball class for 8-10 year old kids.
Ages 8–10
A fun, active introduction to pickleball. Through games, drills and friendly competition, kids learn the basics: how to hold the paddle, serve, return and keep a rally going. They also learn the basic rules and how the game is scored. We use kid-friendly teaching methods that build coordination, confidence and good sportsmanship. Beginners start with the fundamentals, and players with some experience move on to longer rallies and game play.
Ages 11–13
At this age kids have the focus and physical capabilities to master more advanced pickleball skills. Players work on consistent strokes, footwork and ball control. They also learn the shots that make pickleball unique, like the dink and the third-shot drop, along with basic doubles strategy and court positioning. Every class ends with game play so players can put new skills to use. Players are grouped by level, from newcomers learning the basic rules, scoring and technique to experienced players working on strategy.
Ages 14+
Pickleball is a great sport for teens who are looking for a competitive outlet or just a new and simple way to become more physically active in a supportive social setting. Newer players get a solid foundation in rules, basic technique and scoring. More experienced players sharpen advanced shots such as drops, drives, resets and volleys, and work on shot selection, partner teamwork and match strategy. Each class is a mix of coaching and competitive play, with players grouped by ability so everyone is challenged.
